When
normal charging source is not available? Unless a household has a reliable 24 hour source of battery charging (e.g. a microhydro water turbine in a creek that runs all year round), a backup generator and battery charger are usually required to charge the battery bank when the normal charging source is not available. When household power usage is in excess of what the power system was designed to supply, a battery charger is also useful.
