Power
System Components
Basically,
a stand-alone power system comprises:
Method
of producing power -
i.e. through the use of photovoltaic solar panels, wind generators,
water turbines and petrol/diesel generators (and battery charger)
or any combination of the above. The 'hybrid' system uses a
combination of two or more methods of power production.
Deep
cycle batteries -
for storage of the power generated
Controller/regulator -
to regulate the flow of power to the batteries and protect against
over charging
Inverter -
to convert battery DC voltage to 240 volt AC for use of normal
household appliances.
Appropriate
wiring -
for low voltage, if required, together with adequate fusing,
earthing, etc.. It is important that each component is matched
to suit the other equipment in the system and a household's
power needs.
